Feature Adaptation

I first met with the author over the summer after connecting online. Turned out, we have many mutual friends but had never met. She talked about wanting to adapt an e-book she wrote and had another screenwriting take a stab at turning it into a feature to be filmed.

I read the e-book and the first draft of the screenplay, along with notes she had obtained on the screenplay draft. I immediately was drawn into the sweet story and so after a few conversations, we decided to move forward. I am happy to say that after a few drafts, a table read workshop, and additional notes, the adaptation is ready to shop.

Taking a 40-something page e-book to a 70 page draft to now a 93 page feature screenplay was challenging and rewarding. Developing the characters and relationships, taking out some and adding in some to serve the story was a big part of the task.

She has some specific ideas about who she would like to produce the feature film and of course, I am not going to give any of that away. I’ll be cheering her and the screenplay along as it works its way along and hopefully makes it to the screen.
